CT-Discovery

CT-Discovery provides an outlet for learners, of all backgrounds, to become more familiar with the field of Chemical Technology.  Everyone is invited to attend CT-Discovery meetings throughout the academic year.  Whether you are a high school student, a college student, a working adult, or someone who is just generally interested or curious in science, a CT-Discovery meeting could be perfect for you!  Focusing on the ideas of "informal education" and "citizen science", most topics are chosen to generate community interest in a current "problem", allowing participants to contribute research and data to the scientific community.

Essential Oils:  A Consumer Hoax?

Many fake "essential oils" are sold to consumers.  Many of these products are diluted with inexpensive carrier oils and fragrances.  In this session, you will learn how to perform laboratory tests on 10+ brands of lavender essential oil.  Which are fakes?

Electrophoresis: 
A Crime Scene

10:00 am to 2:00 pm

Electrophoresis can be used in DNA and protein analysis.  In this activity, a set of DNA samples will be provided.  The samples have been obtained from a crime scene and from various suspects.  Which person was at the crime scene?  It is a classic case of "who did it"!
